Product description

Composition

Each 100 ml contains:
Vitamin E (as alpha tocopherol acetate 100%)   15.00 gm
Sodium selenite                                                                        0.05 gm

Properties

Both vitamin E and selenium are involved with cellular metabolism of sulfur. Vitamin E has antioxidant properties and, with selenium, it protects against red blood cell hemolysis and prevents the action of peroxidase on unsaturated bonds in cell membranes.

Indications

  • Pherol-S-Ject is indicated for the treatment or prophylaxis of selenium-tocopherol deficiency (STD) syndromes
  • In ewes and lambs (white muscle disease)
  • Calves and breeding cows (white muscle disease)
  • Horses (myositis associated with STD).

Horses, Cattle and Sheep

Dosage instructions

For whole product:

  • 1 ml Pherol-S-Ject / 30 kg liveweight once injected may be repeated at weekly intervals if necessary.

Horses:

  • By intramuscular injection, up to 20 ml Pherol-S- Ject once injected; (Foals: 2 – 5 ml Pherol-S- Ject once injected)

Cattle:

  • By subcutaneous or intramuscular injection, up to 15 ml Pherol-S- Ject once injected;
    (Calves: 2 – 5 ml Pherol-S- Ject once injected)

Sheep:

  • By subcutaneous or intramuscular injection, up to 5 ml Pherol-S- Ject once injected;
    (Lambs: 0.5 –3.0 ml Pherol-S- Ject once injected)

Warnings & Precautions

  • Avoid overdosage of product because selenium is quite toxic in overdose quantities but has a fairly wide safety margin. Cattle have tolerated chronic doses of 0.6 mg/kg/day with no adverse effects (approximate therapeutic dose is 0.06 mg/kg).
  • Symptoms of selenium toxicity include depression, ataxia, dyspnea, blindness, diarrhea, muscle weakness, and a Garlic odor on the breath. Horses suffering from selenium toxicity may become blind, paralyzed, slough their hooves, and lose hair from the tail and mane.

Contra Indications

  • The product should only be used in species for which they are approved.
  • The product must not be used in horses intended for human consumption

Side Effects

  • Selenium overdoses can be extremely toxic.
  • Anaphylactoid reactions have been reported.
  • Intramuscular injections may cause transient muscle soreness.
  • Selenium overdoses can cause depression, ataxia, dyspnea, blindness, diarrhea, muscle weakness and garlic odor on the breath

Cattle, sheep:

  • slaughter withdrawal period nil

Milk

  • withdrawal period nil

Storage condition

In the original pack, at temperature not exceeding 30°c and keep out reach of children.
