Composition:
Each 100 gm contains:
Neomycin sulphate 42.9 gm
Equi. To neomycin base 30.0 gm
Properties:
- Neomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic.
- The susceptible organisms belong mainly Gram-negative bacteria such as E. coli, Proteus spp., Pseudomonas spp. and Salmonella spp., Gram-positive, a sensitivity of Micrococcaciae is observed. Streptococcus spp. & pneumococcal spp. show a very different sensitivity to neomycin.
- Neomycin is bactericidal by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis; it binds to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome and thereby changed it so that neither the initiation of protein synthesis nor the completion begun peptides (elongation) can be performed.
Indications:
- Treatment of Colibacillosis (bacterial enteritis) caused by Escherichia coli susceptible to neomycin sulfate in cattle, swine, sheep, goats, and chickens.
- Use in Turkeys to control mortality associated with E. coli organisms susceptible to neomycin sulfate in growing turkeys
Target species :
Cattle, swine , sheep, goats, turkey and chickens
Dosage & Administration
Cattle، Sheep، Goat & Swine
- 0.51 gm of NEO-FORTE / 10 kg body-weight weight daily in divided doses for a maximum of 14 days
Turkey:
- 0.51 gm of NEO-FORTE /10 kg body-weight (1 liter of drinking water) daily for 5 days
Chickens:
- 0.7 gm of NEO-FORTE /10 kg body-weight (1 liter of drinking water) daily for 3 days
Warnings & Precautions
- The use of this product should be based on susceptibility testing as well as local, officially recognized guidelines on the use of antibiotics.
- In addition treatment with other drugs is a risk of inactivation of neomycin.
- Aminoglycoside antibiotics such as neomycin are not compatible with solutions which alter the pH.
- The neuromuscular blocking action of neomycin is enhanced by muscle relaxants.
- Neomycin reduces absorption of oral penicillins.
- The application of the product in chickens is limited to the administration via drinking water
Contra Indications
- Do not use in calves to be processed for veal
- Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to neomycin or another aminoglycoside antibiotic.
- Do not use in cross reactions with other aminoglycoside antibiotics.
- Do not use concurrently with strong acting diuretics and potentially nephrotoxic.
- There should be a dose reduction in case of treatment with muscle relaxants.
- Do not use in animals with renal and hepatic dysfunction and disorders of hearing and sense of balance.
- Not for use in pregnancy.
- Do not use in dairy cattle 20 months of age or older
Side Effects
- On rare occasions the following adverse reactions may occur, harmful interference to hearing and sense of balance, renal function and strengthening of neuromuscular blockade.
- After repeated oral administration of gastrointestinal lesions with diarrhea and malabsorption syndrome have been observed.
- Allergic reactions (skin reactions, anaphylactic reactions instant) are possible; it is to be expected with a cross allergy to other aminoglycoside antibiotics.
