Composition

Each 100 gm contains
Doxycycline hyclate                                 23 gm
Equivalent to Doxycycline base       20.00 gm

Properties

  • Doxycycline belongs to the group of the tetracycline antibiotics. These antibiotics have a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity, sharing the same basic structure of polycyclic naphthacenecarboxamide.
  • Doxycycline is primarily a bacteriostatic drug. It exerts its action by inhibiting the protein synthesis of the bacterial cell. Inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis results in disturbance of all functions necessary for the life of bacteria, especially cell-division and the formation of the cell wall are impaired.
  • Doxycycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, Active against:
    • Gram-positive bacteria include: Actinomyces spp., Bacillus anthracis, Clostridium perfringens and tetani, Listeria monocytogenes and Nocardia.
    • Gram-negative bacteria, include Bordetella spp., Brucella, Bartonella, Haemophilus spp., Pasturella multocida, Shigella, and Yersinia pestis
    • Most mycoplasma, spirochetes (including the Lyme disease organism), Chlamydia and Rickettsia

Indications

Breeders & broiler chickens:

  • Pasteurellosis caused by Pasteurella multocida
  • Respiratory infections caused by Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale (ORT).

Dosage & Administration

Breeders & broiler chickens:

  • In case of infections caused by P. multocida : 4.3 gm Doxy-Moon 20 / 100 kg body weight (10 liter of drinking water) / day for 3-4  days.
  • In case of infections caused by O. rhinotracheale : 8.7 gm Doxy-Moon 20 / 100 kg body weight (10 liter of drinking water) /day for 3-4 days.

Warnings & Precautions

  • Do not combine with antibiotics that are bactericidal e.g. penicillins or cephalosporins.
  • Use of the product should be based on culture and sensitivity of micro-organisms from diseased cases on farm.
  • Do not store the drinking water in metallic containers.

Contra Indications

  • Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of excipients.
  • Do not use in animals with an impaired liver function.

Side Effects

Tetracyclines may in very rare cases induce photosensitivity and allergic reactions.

Withdrawal time

Meat and offal:

  • 10 days.

Eggs:

  • Not authorised for use in laying birds producing eggs for human consumption.
  • Do not use within 4 weeks of onset of the laying period.

Storage condition

Store at temperature not exceeding 30ºC in a dry place and used after opening for 60 days at temperature not exceeding 30ºC in a dry place and used for 24 hours after reconstitution at temperature not exceeding 30ºC
