Product description

Composition

Each 100 gm sterile powder contains:
Streptomycin sulphate                         100.0 gm
Equivalent to Streptomycin base      79.8 gm

Preparation of solution for injection

Add sterile water for injection to the 100 gm powder up to 250 ml (capacity of the vial) to obtain 40% streptomycin sulphate sterile solution ready for injection Equivalent approx. 32% streptomycin base/ml. (i.e. each ml of the preparation contains approx. 320 mg streptomycin base)

Properties

  • Streptomycin is a member of the aminoglycosides group of antibiotics.
  • Streptomycin is thought to act by entering the bacterial cell and combining irreversibly with ribosomal RNA. This combination interferes with protein synthesis including misreading of the amino-acid sequence and premature termination of the protein chain resulting in the death of the bacteria.
  • Streptomycin injection is active against a wide range of Gram-negative organisms and some Gram-positive pathogens including E.coli, Klebsiella spp., Mycobacterium tuberculosis and some species of Proteus, Pasteurella and Salmonella

Indications

Streptomycin injection is indicated in the treatment of:

Horses:

  • Bacterial Diarrhea caused by Salmonella spp, E.Coli & Klebsiella spp in foals.
  • Septicemia caused by E.Coli and Klebsiella spp in foals.
  • Salmonellosis caused by S typhinurium, S anatum, S newport,

Cattle:

  • Bacterial Diarrhea caused by Salmonella spp & E.Coli in calves.
  • Tuberculosis caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
  • Salmonellosis caused by Salmonella typhimurium, Salmonella dublin and Salmonella newport.

Sheep and goat:

  • Watery mouth disease caused by E.Coli.
  • Pasteurellosis caused by Pasteurella heamolytica & Pasteurella trehalosi.
  • Bronchopneumonia caused by Pasteurella multocida.
  • Salmonellosis caused by Salmonella. typhinurium & Salmonella. dublin

Dogs & Cats:

  • Cholecystitis or Osteomyelitis caused by E.Coli.
  • Tuberculosis in dog caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
  • Metritis caused by E.Coli and Proteus sp.
  • Pyometra caused by E.Coli and Proteus sp in case of bitches.
  • Prostatitis caused by E.Coli.
  • Tonsillitis caused by E.Coli.

Target species

Horses, Cattle, Sheep, Dogs & Cats.

Dosage & Administration

Route of admiration: For intramuscular injection only.

For whole product

Horses, cattle and sheep:

1 ml /32 kg bodyweight for up to 3 days.

Dogs and cats:

1 ml /13 kg bodyweight

Warnings & Precautions

  • Use of the product should be based on susceptibility testing of bacteria isolated from the animal
  • Take particular care when treating animals suffering from renal damage
  • For cattle, the maximum dose volume to be administered at a single site is 10 ml and for sheep 5 ml.

Contra Indications

  • Contra-indicated in cases of known hypersensitivity to the active ingredients.
  • Concurrent use with other potentially nephrotoxic drugs, such as diuretics, should be avoided.

Withdrawal time

Cattle:

  • Meat and Offal: 16 days
  • Milk: 48 hours

Sheep:

  • Meat and Offal: 18 days
  • Milk: Do not use in sheep producing milk intended for human consumption

Storage condition

Store at temperature not exceeding 30ºC in a dry place and used after reconstitution for 30 days at temperature not exceeding 30°C.

  • 250 ml vial containing 100 gm powder + 500 ml solvent.
  • 500 ml vial containing 200 gm powder + 500 ml solvent.
