Composition
Each 100 ml contains:
Gentamicin base (as sulphate) 5.0 gm
Properties
Gentamycin sulphate is bactericidal in action, acting directly on the bacterial ribosome where it inhibits protein synthesis and decreases the fidelity of translation of the genetic code. The substance is highly polar and transport appears to be an active process closely linked to electron transport, oxidative phosphorylation and the respiratory quinones in the cell membrane. The antibacterial activity is primarily directed against aerobic Gram- negative bacteria, Enterobacter aerogenes, E. coli, K. pneumoniae, Proteus and Pseudomonas aeroginosa
Indications
Medgent 5% is used in treatment of :
Horses:
- Endometritis caused by E. coli , Pseudomonas aeroginosa and K. pneumoniae.
- Pneumonia caused by Pseudomonas aeroginosa
Dogs and cats:
- Infectious tracheobronchitis caused by E. coli , Pseudomonas aeroginosa and K. pneumoniae

Dosage instructions
For Whole Product
Horses:
By I /V or I /M injection: 4.6 ml Medgent 5% /100 kg b.wt. three times daily
Dogs, cats:
by I/V,I/M or S/C injection, 1 ml Medgent 5% /10 kg b.wt twice daily for 24 hours then once daily
Warnings & Precautions
- Treatment should not exceed 5 days without biochemical confirmation of normal renal function.
- The product should be used for treatment of severe infections only.
- Not used in food producing animals
Contra Indications
- Do not use in cases of known hypersensitivity to the active ingredient
- Do not use in pregnant animals
- Do not use in known cases of renal impairment
- This product should not be used in conjunction with other aminoglycoside antibiotics, or with other drugs known to induce either ototoxicity or nephrotoxicity
Side Effects
A slight non-persistent reaction may occur at the injection site.
Storage condition
Store at temperature not exceeding 30°C away from sunlight and used after opening for 60 days at temperature not exceeding 30°C away from sunlight
