Product description

Composition

Each 100 ml contains:
Phenylbutazone                        20 gm

Properties

Phenylbutazone has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, and mild uricosuric properties. The proposed mechanism of action is by the inhibition of cyclooxygenase, thereby reducing prostaglandin synthesis. Other pharmacologic actions phenylbutazone may induce include reduced renal blood flow and decreased glomerular filtration rate, decreased platelet aggregation, and gastric mucosal damage.

Indications

Phenylomed is indicated for the relief of inflammatory conditions associated with the musculoskeletal system in horses and ponies. It has been used primarily for the treatment of lameness in horses and ponies

Dosage & Administration

Horses:

  • by slow intravenous injection, 1.1 ml Phenylomed / 50 kg as a single dose

Ponies:

  • by slow intravenous injection, 1.1 ml Phenylomed / 50 kg as a single dose

Warnings & Precautions

  • Caution with use in animals less than 6 weeks of age or aged animals
  • Avoid use in dehydrated, hypovolaemic , or hypotensive animals
  • Safety in pregnancy has not been established
  • Avoid concurrent administration of potentially nephrotoxic drugs, aminoglycosides, methooxyflurane, anaesthesia , or plasma-protein bound drugs
  • Animal on long-term treatment should be monitored
  • Concurrent antibacterial should be given if bacterial infection present.

Contra Indications

  • Animal with cardiac, renal, or hepatic disease.
  • Where there is the possibility of gastro-intestinal ulceration or bleeding.
  • Hypersensitivity to the drug.
  • Blood dyscrasias.
  • Treatment with other NSAIDs concurrently or within 24 hours
  • Treatment before regaining consciousness after any general anaesthesia.
  • Thyroid diseases.

Side Effects

  • Prolonged use may cause gastro-intestinal lesions, inappetance and diarrhea.
  • Occasional oedema of limbs.

Withdrawal time

Should not be used in horses and ponies intended for human consumption

Storage condition

  • Store at temperature not exceeding 30°C and valid for 45 days after opening.
  • keep out reach of children.
