Composition

Each 100 ml contains:
Sulfadoxine                20 gm
Trimethoprim              4 gm

Properties

  • The two components of Trimethoprim and Sulfadoxine block sequential stages in the synthesis of tetrahydrofolate and thus have a synergistic antibacterial action.
  • The two components of Trimethoprim and Sulfadoxine: provides effective antibacterial activity against a wide range of infections caused by gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria
  • The two components of Trimethoprim and Sulfadoxine: has shown activity in vitro against the following organisms: Actinobacillus spp., Actinomyces bovis, Bordetella spp., Corynebacterium spp., Klebsiella spp., Listeria monocytogenes, Nocardia spp., Pasteurella spp., Proteus spp., Salmonella spp., Staphylococcus spp., and Streptococcus spp.

Indications

For the treatment of a wide range of diseases and conditions of bacterial origin in cattle and horses:

  • Respiratory infections of bacterial origin including pneumonia, rhinitis, bronchitis and secondary bacterial infections following virus pneumonia and mycoplasmal infections.
  • Urogenital tract infections including cystitis, vaginitis, urethritis, nephritis and metritis.
  • Alimentary tract infections including neonatal diarrhea, salmonellosis and post- weaning enteritis.

Target species

Cattle and horses

Dosage instructions

Horses:

  • By I/M or slow I/V (preferred) injection, 2.5 ml Methodoxin /40 kg for 3-5 days

Cattle:

  • By I/M (preferred) or I/V injection, 2.5 ml Methodoxin /40 kg daily for 3-5 days

Warnings & Precautions

  • Safety in pregnant animals has not been established.
  • Use with caution in animals with renal or hepatic impairment or blood dyscrasias.
  • Ensure adequate water supply available

Contra Indications

Intraperitoneal administration.
Horses with cardiac arrhythmias.
Sulphonamides hypersensitivity.
Concurrent alpha2-adrenoceptor stimulants

Side Effects

  • Occasional transient swelling at site of injection.
  • Cardiac and respiratory shock in horses.
  • Anaphylactic or hypersensitivity reactions in horses.
  • Renal, hepatic, or haematopoietic system damage

Withdrawal time

Cattle:

  • slaughter 10 days
  • milk 2 days.

Storage condition

Store at temperature not exceeding 30 °C and used after opening for 50 days at temperature not exceeding 30 °C.
